30 Most Romantic Movie Quotes
From romantic comedies to period dramas, love is in the air. If you are looking for some of the most romantic movie quotes of all time, you should consider checking out one of the following movies. Next time that you feel the urge to call your ex back—or text a late night booty call—flip on one of these movies. These quotes are some of the most romantic movie quotes ever. As such, they are all contained within the most romantic movies ever. Grab a pint of ice cream and dim the lights because its time to dial into a movie night.
1. The Great Gatsby
The first romantic movie quote on the list is also one of the best. If you have never seen or read the Great Gatsby, you are in for a treat. Unlike most movies, this is one film that comes extremely close to being as good as the book. The production talent of Baz Luhrmann mixed with the good looks of Leondardo DiCaprio combine to make one of the best romantic films of all time. If you have read the book or love the movie, this quote is sure to make it onto your favorites list.
2. Dirty Dancing
One of the biggest problems with “100 best movie” lists or discussions of top romance quotes is that most people only consider recent films. Unfortunately, focusing on only recent movies leaves out an entire list of excellent classics. For fans of Grease or the Notebook, Dirty Dancing is a must-see classic romance. From spot-on dance scenes to a wrong-side-of-the-tracks romance, it has some of the most touching moments ever committed to film.
3. Sleepless in Seattle
For decades afterward, this movie has remained intricately associated with the Pacific Northwest. Modified off of the previous movie, An Affair to Remember, Sleepless in Seattle captures the magic of serendipity and a new relationship. If you need a reminder that happily-ever-after does happen occasionally, this is the movie to see.
4. The Notebook
If a relationship has just ended or you recently had a major argument, the Notebook is the movie that you need. For years, this iconic movie has remained a girl’s go-to film for relationship problems. Bring a box of tissues and some of your favorite ice cream because this film will be a tear jerker.
5. Braveheart
Most people, unfortunately, do not consider Braveheart to be a romantic film. Those people would be wrong, however. In the beginning of the film, William Wallace (Mel Gibson) reunites with his childhood sweetheart and marries her in secret. If an elopement is not romantic enough, the screen writers take the film a step further by—spoiler alert—having his young love be brutally killed. Before a cruel end is reached for Wallace and his freedom movement, he manages to leave a bun in the oven behind with the future queen. Complicated? Yes. Romantic? Extremely.
6. 50 First Dates
When it comes to romantic comedies, most people end up forgetting about 50 First Dates. With Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler playing the starring roles, it is an easy film to forget about. Despite a cheesy plot lines and questionable acting, this movie still managed to be a heart wrencher. Consigned to 24 hour memory, Drew keeps reliving the day before her accident. Throw an infatuated Sandler to the mix and you have a recipe for love…or disaster.
7. Moulin Rouge
If you have never heard this quote from Moulin Rouge, you must live under a rock. Seriously, it would be surprising if there was anyone left alive who has not seen this iconic movie. True love, romance and betrayal are just some of the things that you will enjoy about this romantic film. As you follow the twists of the plot and hear some amazing duets, you will come to agree that the greatest thing is just to love and be loved.
8. Silver Linings Playbook
One of the best romantic films in the last two or three years was the Silver Linings Playbook. Part of the draw of this movie was the sassy, crude-yet-lovable acting by Jennifer Lawrence. Are you tired of seeing romances where the heroine is a personality-less drone and the hero is your typical muscular Alpha male? Try watching the Silver Linings Playbook. It portrays a very realistic relationship between two characters who have real world problems. By the end of the film, you will be clutching at your handkerchief and dabbing your eyes.
9. Gone With the Wind
Really, is there any more to say? Who wouldn’t say yes to an offer like that?
10. Casper
Between two of the world’s greatest romances of all-time, there is just enough space to squeeze in a cartoon character. Casper may be known as the friendly ghost, but he is more than just likeable. This sweet quote can be used with your boyfriend or any person that you want to just keep around forever.
11. Pride and Prejudice
With sweeping romance and touching gestures, Mr. Darcy is THE romantic hero. Anyone who was raised on a steady diet of Jane Austen novels knows just how hard it is to find a real man that lives up to Mr. Darcy. Effortlessly debonair and amazingly gorgeous, this movie puts other romantic films to shame.
12. Pride and Prejudice
Another amazing quote from the film. In this quote, Mr. Darcy is explaining that everything he has done was entirely for her. Sweet, loving Darcy. Just about any quote from this film could be used to describe a relationship.
13. My Big Fat Greek Wedding
What quotes weren’t too love in this movie? One of our favorite romantic quotes from the entire film arrived during one of the more serious conversations. Our lovely leading lady asked the question, “But why do you love me?” The response? “Because I came alive when I met you.” Although My Big Fat Greek Wedding was fairly humorous throughout each scene, there were a few lovely moments of romance.
14. Notting Hill
In one of the modern classics, Julia Roberts makes a desperate plea for love. She tries to convince her lover that really she is just a woman looking for a man—the fact that she is a movie star should not matter. Really, we are still trying to get over the idea that anyone would ever turn her down.
15. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
She makes an excellent point. When it comes to love, it is impossible to lose something that you never had. This movie may have been your run-of-the-mill romantic comedy, but the acting by Kate Hudson really made the plot line come alive.
