 Originally from London, Katrina Kaif is one of Bollywood’s biggest and most well known celebrities of today. She started her career with “Boom” which didn’t exactly fare well at the box office. But with those good looks, it was only a matter of time before Katrina resurfaced. After doing a couple of ho-hum movies, Kat really made a mark in the 2009 film New York, followed by Rajneeti, Zindagi na Milegi Dobara, and Dhoom 3. Since then it’s all been going uphill for this hottie. Known as much for her scintillating dance moves in songs such as “Sheila ki Jawani” and “Chikni Chameli”, this Bollywood diva shows no signs of slowing down, even with her rumored engagement to Ranbir Kapoor.

 The best thing about Parineeti Chopra is her girl-next-door vibe. She’s as cute as a button, down to earth, honest,  is comfortable in her own skin, isn’t afraid to give people a piece of her mind, and can handle criticism as well as she can handle compliments. She’s also a brilliant actress, having impressed viewers and critics like right from her first movie, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, which earned her a Filmfare award. To say that Hrithik Roshan is handsome would be the understatement of the century! He is Bollywood’s version of a Greek God with an amazing body and the perfect cheek bones, not to mention the most gorgeous green eyes you’ve ever seen! He’s also got insane dancing skills! He made his film debut in 2000 in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and has since become one of Bollywood’s most successful actors. When you think of writing about 50 of the most beautiful Black Women, it’s not an easy task, in fact it is quite an intimidating one! It is extremely hard to choose from amongst the many, many beautiful, talented  black women and I can’t help but wonder if I am doing justice to them all.

Beauty is about power, intelligence, confidence and inner strength. The women listed here are all powerful human beings and have excelled in their chosen fields. Hattie McDaniel was the first African American woman to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The former number one tennis player, Venus Williams was the first African American to achieve the feat. As if that was not achievement enough, she has 4 Olympic Gold Medals in her kitty. She also holds the record of hitting the fastest serve by a woman. Tall, and athletic, Venus seems to have been born to rule the tennis world!

Is it a matter of coincidence that a single family has two girls ruling the roost in the tennis world? Just like Venus, her younger sister Serena too simply refuses to let go of her rank in the tennis world and is currently ranked as number one. Known as being the girl with the grit, Serena has come back to win titles from seemingly impossible situations. If he’s good enough to play Christian Grey, he’s certainly good enough for our dirty minds. We love a man who isn’t afraid to take on a scandalous role. Sometimes just having a crush on someone is enough.  You can keep the secret inside and enjoy the special feeling you get when you bump into him on the street, or gaze at him across the room and fantasize about his lips touching yours… Dreaming about your crush is like eating candy in the middle of the night. It’s sweet, it’s fun, and nobody gets hurt, but you still feel just a little bit secretive and wicked, which just makes it all the more enjoyable!

But sometimes, you want more than to just stalk him online (in the nicest way of course!) and adoringly gaze at photos of him without him ever knowing you exist. You want him to actually know that you like him. Here are fifteen ways to do just that. Some are very simple and traditional, while others are a little more out there and only for girls who aren’t afraid to take a risk for the chance of a big payoff. Choose what works for you, and make those steamy dreams come true.

1. Talk to Him

The first step to turning a crush into a reality is to get to know the guy. This seems basic, but some of the biggest crushes can evaporate the minute you actually talk to the dude. He may be totally hot to look at, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you will connect. Maybe he’s a gear head NASCAR-fan and you’re an off-the-grid, camping in the woods hippie chick. Maybe you both love eating caramel popcorn and watching animé. There’s only one way to find out: take a deep breath and approach him.

 2. Hang Out Together

If you do hit it off, this is your opportunity to casually suggest a get together.  “Hey, there’s a animé festival in town next week, and they’re showing the Otomi movie Steamboy.  Wanna go?”  Or maybe you have enough friends in common that you can tag along with a group he’s part of and just manage to sit next to him at the movie theatre or coffee shop.  Just because there happen to be ten other people in the group doesn’t mean you can’t attract his whole attention.  Be careful with this one, and don’t be too pushy.  If he obviously isn’t interested, back off and let him have his space. But most guys are flattered when a girl pays them attention, and are happy to sit back and lap it up for as long as you’re willing to be adoring!

 3. Flirt with Him

Flirting is fun, and I really don’t get why some girls think it’s tough.  If you think you’re attractive, and you act as if you’re attractive, your crush will notice you.  And when he notices you, let him know YOU think HE is attractive by flirting. It sounds cheesy, but all the stereotypical moves work – catch and hold eye contact for just a second longer than is normal, stand as close as you can, touch him lightly, wear attractive clothing and make sure you smell good, smile a lot, and laugh at his jokes… there are many, many ways to flirt, and all of them are time tested and true!

4. Change your Facebook Profile to “In a relationship with (his name)”

This is one for a girl with guts, and one whose friends can play along with a joke. If your crush is already your Facebook friend, you can just go ahead and make the relationship happen – at least in cyber-space!  Change your profile to say you’re in a relationship with your crush, and wait for him to notice, or one of your other friends to notice and ask him about it.  Play it cool and just wait to see how, and if, he reacts. This is a surefire way to know, and fast, if he likes you or not! This one may backfire, so be prepared with a story to get you out of there if he makes it clear he’s not interested.  Maybe say it was a dare from a mutual friend, or that your account was hacked. Never admit the truth on this one until you’re living happily ever after!

5. Send Him Flowers

It would work for you, right?  So why don’t more girls send guys flowers?  It doesn’t have to be red roses, it doesn’t even have to be flowers!  It can be a potted plant if you think that’s more his style, or a cookie bouquet if he has a sweet tooth. The point here is to let him know you are thinking of him.  You can sign this with your name and leave no doubt, but I like to do this anonymously. For example, I would send a cactus with a cute note: “I may be prickly on the outside, but I’m succulent when you get past my spikes. Love, your secret crush.” That will definitely make him wonder who the secret crush is. Then a few days later, when you see him, make a casual remark that leaves no doubt that it was you that sent the bouquet and note. Talk about how you collect cactuses, or how you love cookie bouquets, and look him straight in the eye as you say it. He’ll pick up on the message.

6.  Loan Him a Book and Leave a Sexy Photo of You inside

This is a fun one if you know your crush and you share a mutual hobby or interest in books. When you’re talking, take note of a subject he likes and go buy a book about it, or even better pull a book he would like from your personal library. Next time you see him, casually pull the book out of your bag and say: “I had this lying around the house, and thought you might like to read it.”  Make sure that you have your name and phone number written inside the cover so he has no excuse for not contacting you. Somewhere in the book hide a small photo of you looking hot. No nudity, just a swimsuit, cute underwear, pj’s, or tank top and shorts is fine.  Make sure the photo is tucked in there so it won’t fall out when you hand over the book.  You want him to find this photo when he’s alone and can let his thoughts run wild.  You’ve been fantasizing about him – now it’s his turn to fantasize about you!

 7. Tweet his photo captioned “Isn’t he HOT!?”

This involves sneaking a photo of him when he’s looking his best. You’ve been kinda, sorta, stalking him, right?  So play detective and take your camera along when you sit in the bleachers watching him play, or use a zoom and grab a shot of him as he walks past your house. The most important thing here is to make sure he really does look good, not just to you, but to all your girlfriends, and yes, to himself.  He’s going to eventually see this photo and you want him to be impressed!  When you have the perfect shot, send it out and wait for someone to re-tweet it to him. If he likes you, he’ll be in touch!

8. Cook Him Dinner

Your Gran would tell you the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and guess what?  Gran would be right!  Nothing impresses a man more than a home-cooked meal made by the fair hand of a maiden.  Yeah, it’s old fashioned, but you can make him cook next time, right?

9. Become friends with his Mom

This is a sneaky one, but all men are little boys at heart, and if his Mom likes you, chances are he will as well. This works great if you are employed in the same company as his Mom, are in a group she is also part of, or do similar classes such as yoga, or work out at the same gym. The friendship has to happen naturally or she’ll think you’re just weird and creepy, and so will he!

10. Send him a Poem

You can borrow a love poem by a famous author, or write your own. I personally think writing your own has way more impact. It doesn’t have to be a good poem, it doesn’t even have to rhyme. Just put your feelings down in words. If you know he read your poem, and he doesn’t attempt to talk to you or respond in any way, move on.

11. Go for a Walk in the Moonlight

There are certain places in this world where romance and magic just happen easier than anywhere else. There’s Paris of course, Niagara Falls, and pretty much any tropical beach. But unless you happen to live near one of those places, romantic locations tend to be limited to a scenic overlook or a local park. Strange things happen when couples walk together under the moonlight, strange and wonderful things.  Try it with your crush!

 12.  Share a Bottle of Champagne

Just like walking in the moonlight, sharing a bottle of champagne with someone can turn a regular evening into something magical.  Somehow the cork popping and the bubbles makes everything special. Of course, if you can combine the champagne and the moonlight the effect is doubled. So maybe take him for a picnic under the stars, just you and him on a blanket – you’ll look at each other, and you won’t need to tell him you like him. He’ll just know!

 13. Borrow his Clothes and Wear Them in Public

Okay, so this is usually a trick used by girls to announce they’re dating a guy. But if you can swing it, wearing his clothes BEFORE you date is a sure fire way to let him know you like him. I admit that getting his sweater or jacket can be tricky, so make sure you keep an eye out to check if he’s the kind of guy who leaves his clothes lying around. Then when he sees you wearing his jacket or sweater and says: “Hey, that looks like mine!” you can calmly hand it back and say you thought it might be his when you found it, and how comfy, warm and cozy it is and how much you loved wearing it!

14. Ask him to be your Valentine

February 14th is the day when even the most timid girls can admit to their crush that they think he is hot. Do it in person, or do it by card, or send him an online message. Just do it!

15. Just Tell Him

Men don’t always pick up on subtle hints. Sometimes, even the obvious hints go past them. The solution? Just tell him how you feel. It’s not easy and he may not feel the same way, but at least you’ll get it off your chest and he’ll appreciate the honesty.

So, there you are, gazing across the room/lecture hall/bar/gym/ wherever, at the most jaw-droppingly yummy guy you’ve ever seen. Just staring at him makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. You just KNOW you were meant to be together. So what do you do now? Do you stay quiet, and secretly admire from afar? Or are you ballsy enough to put yourself out there and start a conversation?

Don’t worry if the thought of this makes you want to run and hide. All of us are tongue-tied when we first talk to a guy we like. Even though men are the ones who are traditionally supposed to start a conversation, they are just as terrified as we are. In fact, your dream guy could be secretly looking at YOU out of the corner of his eye, wondering how on earth HE can get to talk to YOU!

So follow these simple tips for some fun conversation starters, and get that cutie out of your dreams, and into your life!

1. Drop Something

The classic romantic ploy; walk in front of him and drop a book, your scarf, your watch… anything that will attract his attention. Unless he’s a total jerk, he’ll stop, pick it up and hand it to you. You say “thanks” and take it from there! Easy peasy.

2. Get a Friend to Help

Used by girls for generations, this method of making an introduction takes the stress off you and leaves no doubt in the guy’s mind that you’re interested. Use this when you’re out with your girlfriends and notice a guy on another table or across the room. He’ll probably have noticed you and your friends looking at him and whispering, so he’ll know something is up. Send your girlfriend over to tell him you like him, while you stay put, smiling at him and looking cute. If he has any interest at all, he’ll take the bait and come on over to you. This is where the rest of your girlfriends helpfully disappear, leaving you and him alone to get acquainted.

3. Almost Fall

Basically, this move involves faking an “almost fall”, where you have to grab onto him to stop yourself from falling down. I recommend you practise this move with a girlfriend first, as you don’t want to really fall and possibly hurt yourself or make yourself just look like a klutz. High heels are a benefit, as you can angle your foot a little and it looks like you twisted your ankle. He will of course, help you up (assuming he’s a gentleman) and ask if you’re okay. Thank him sweetly, and give him a sincere compliment such as “Wow, you have such beautiful blue eyes!” Hopefully he’ll return the compliment, and Zing, there goes the spark between you!

4. Ask him a Question

Strangers ask us questions all the time, and the basic rules of politeness demand that we respond. Use this to your advantage, and approach the guy you like with a simple question such as “What time is it?” or something more specific to the location such as “Do you know what time the train to Smithville leaves?” He’ll give the standard response of course, but the ice has been broken and you are now free to continue the conversation with other comments or observations. Even if you walk away this time, next time you see him you’ll be able to smile and wave in recognition, and you’ll be buddies before you know it.

5. Ask for Help

I know that the feminists out there will sigh and roll their eyes when they read this, but the truth is guys love to feel manly and knowledgeable. A little Scarlett O’Hara play-acting can never hurt when starting a conversation with a guy. Asking for help to carry something heavy is the obvious, but you can also ask for his opinion on something. Electronics are great for this, and hanging out at the Apple Store or your local Best Buy will find you a good-looking nerd who can fix your computer and rub your toes at night!

6. Ask for Directions

Like the previous two suggestions, this is a commonly accepted way to approach a complete stranger. You don’t have to really be lost, just pretend! This works well in the mall, as you can simply ask if he knows where a specific store is. The aim here is to talk him into actually guiding you to your destination, and the conversation will flow naturally as you walk together.  Clever, huh?

7. Talk to his Pet

Guys with pets are just so adorable! Although it’s considered weird to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger without any reason, it is perfectly acceptable to pet a dog and tell him what a cute puppy he is. This will lead to a conversation with the dog’s owner, and has the added benefit of giving you a ready-made topic to discuss.

8. Fake a Wrong Number

If you can get his phone number, call and ask for someone else – just make up a name. When he says “sorry wrong number” pretend to recognize his voice and say “is this (his name)?” Of course he’ll say yes, you say who you are, and follow up with a comment or question. Something like “Wow, how random. I meant to call (fake name) and I misdialed you. That’s so weird. Must be fate, huh?” Bingo – you’re talking.

9. Take Something of his by “Mistake”

Oops! You picked up something of his instead of yours, so of course you have to apologize and give it back, which gives you an excuse to open a conversation. Order right after him in the coffee shop, and pick up his coffee instead of yours. He’ll probably be asking you for it before you even get a chance to say anything to him! Please don’t take a sip from his cup though – that would be just gross. Save swapping spit for later! This can work in a class as well, take his completed paper from the pile along with yours, and then pretend to notice, look around and go over to hand it to him. Pretty much anything of low value that you can snag without him noticing, and then immediately give back with a pretty smile and sweet apology, will work.

10. Offer to Share your Umbrella

It’s raining, you’re walking along the street next to a good looking guy, you have an umbrella and he doesn’t. What could be more natural than to offer to share? If he thinks you’re cute he won’t pass up the opportunity to get to know you, and a brand new romance is born!  Now tell me, that isn’t a cute idea.

11. Offer him Candy

You’re sitting next to a cute guy in a public place who you’d love to say hello to. Look into your bag for some candy, gum, or even a cookie, and offer it to him. Smile and tell him that the rule about not accepting candy from strangers doesn’t count once you’re all grown-up! He’s sure to smile back and conversation will follow.  Ask him what his favorite type of candy/gum/cookie is, tell him yours, talk about sweet nothings and I promise you’ll be laughing together within minutes!

12. Blow him a Kiss

Have you been eye-flirting with a guy across the room, and want to take it a step further? Next time you catch him looking at you, blow him a kiss. It’s not exactly striking up a conversation, but I bet it’ll soon turn into one. I know this one is kinda out there, but it’s worth a shot right?

13. “Crash” your Car into his

Admittedly, this is a totally drastic move. But if all else fails, this one is guaranteed to start a conversation! Make sure you have good insurance, and make it a tiny fender bender in a parking lot. Probably best not to use this one if his car is obviously the current love of his life, and you could do your make-up in the reflection from his chrome. In that case, use the next suggestion…

14. Admire his Car/Motorbike/Boat/Four wheeler

Boys love their toys, and a compliment about his ride is guaranteed to spark his interest and start a conversation. Even better than a compliment is if you can ask a question that shows you know a little about the model or make he has, as you’re pretty certain to impress him and start a passionate discussion. He’ll probably offer you a ride, and off you go into the sunset!

15. Borrow his phone

This one is easy and will definitely work! Go up to the guy you’d like to talk to in a pretend hurry and ask him if you could borrow his phone to make an emergency call. Tell him yours just died. Call a girlfriend who’s already in on the plan, have a pretend conversation, hang up, and tell him how sweet he was to let you borrow his phone. Voila!

16. Just say “Hello!”

Watching movies is one of the best pastimes ever! They aren’t like television series where you need to wait for months to find out what’s going to happen next. And although I love to read, sometimes you just need to lie down and watch a good movie to make all your worries disappear. Movies are also perfect for when you’re feeling down and all you want to do is cry.  Here is a list of 40 movies that will make you do just that. Make sure to have some Kleenex handy before pressing play!

1. Miracle in Cell No. 7

Miracle in Cell No. 7 is a South Korean film that won hearts all over the world in 2014. This movie is about a father who is mentally unstable and his daughter who fights for his freedom when he gets wrongly convicted with murder. Unconditional love between a father and daughter is always a nice plot to watch. Plus, it’s amazing to watch a young girl understand the disabilities of her father, even without the presence of a mother.

2. 50 First Dates

There are plenty of romantic comedies but 50 First Dates, starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore is such a sweet, heartwarming movie that it’s sure to make you cry. Imagine dating somebody who won’t be able to remember you the next day. Now it takes a real man to commit to this kind of relationship! Sure it’s just a movie but it makes you wonder if such amazing men exist in real life as well, doesn’t it?

3.  Titanic

Who hasn’t watched Titanic at least twice? It will make you cry for many reasons. Firstly, the fact that it is a true story of a tragedy that took so many lives. Secondly, the ending. I will never stop feeling bad for poor Jack. It’s such a depressing yet romantic ending. And lastly, because the movie was made with heart. All the elements put together make this movie really overwhelming! One of my favorite classics that I even have a VHS tape of!

4. Awakenings

Awakenings stars Robin Williams (RIP) and Robert De Niro. You can tell that this is a great film from the cast alone. This movie is about a doctor (Williams) who has found out about the dramatic effects of an L-Dopa drug on his catatonic patients including Leonard (De Niro).  It’s amazing to watch them “awaken” from their catatonic state and equally depressing to watch them revert back. Despite the pain that De Niro goes through, he still encourages Williams to continue with the study, in order to help out other patients in the future. How would you feel if you knew you were going to go back into a catatonic state and you actually had to break up with the love of your life because of that? That kind of selflessness will make you cry.

5.  Stepmom

Stepmom is a film about a mother (Susan Sarandon) who is dying of a terminal disease and has to deal with her emotions about her children’s new stepmom (Julia Roberts) at the same time. As you can imagine, everyone goes through a plethora of emotions but one of my favorite scenes is when Julia tells Susan that she fears that on her stepdaughter’s wedding day, all she’ll want is her mother, to which Susan replies that she fears that her daughter will forget her and won’t even miss her. You will break down when you watch the Christmas scene where Sarandon tells her children that she will be with them forever. This is one movie that I can watch over and over.

6. Armageddon

Armageddon was such a big hit back in 1998, mainly because it’s about astronauts who are passionate about their jobs and will do just about anything to protect earth from the threat of an asteroid. You will start tearing up (I know I did) when Harry (Bruce Willis) tells his daughter’s boyfriend (Ben Affleck) to leave so he can be the one to die and blesses him with an “I would be proud to have you as a son” statement. And all this happens in outer space! Now, how cool is that?!

7.  The Blind Side

The Blind Side stars Sandra Bullock and Quinton Aaron and tells the tale of  love and hope. Leigh Ann (Sandra) becomes the legal guardian of  Michael (Quinton), an orphan with a tough past. Slowly but surely, she unlocks his special gift as a great football player,  despite everybody’s doubts about him. This is a typical tear jerker film where you root for the underdog and he emerges victorious at the end of a long, hard road. The fact that it is semi-biographical doesn’t hurt either. It will make you realize that it is possible to love someone and consider them family even if they don’t have the same bloodline as you.  Never underestimate the power of love!

 8. A Walk to Remember

This movie makes me bawl like a baby every single time! It is the perfect love story with the most devastating, shattering end. Mandy Moore plays Jamie, a typical geek who  falls in love with Landon, the typical cool kid played by Shane West. Yes, they have very different personalities and backgrounds but who can stop the heart from wanting what it wants. They have a tough time in the beginning and when things finally seem to be going their way, they discover that Jamie is dying of leukemia. Landon helps her complete her bucket list, winning our hearts and breaking it at the same time.  You can’t help but feel their pain and sadness.

 9. The Fault in Our Stars

TFIOS was a big hit when it hit bookstores. The Young Adult Novel written by John Green became so popular that Hollywood simply had to have a piece. Sure enough, it was a block buster! TFIOS is about two witty young cancer patients who fall in love with each other at a cancer support group. It’s amazing how true love can make people happy despite very miserable circumstances.

10. Patch Adams

Robin Williams was the best, wasn’t he? In Patch Adams, he plays a medical student who believes that patients must be treated using humor and compassion. He is the epitome of the saying “Laughter is the Best Medicine.” He does his best to give his services even to people who are unable to afford it. Another added element is a May-December affair that is just too sweet not to swoon over.

12.  The Pursuit of Happyness

Will Smith proves that he is indeed more than just a handsome face with a smooth singing voice. In this movie, he shows that a father’s love is like no other. He struggles as a homeless salesman who is left to take care of his son (played by Jaden Smith) alone after his wife leaves him. It is a tough life as they fight poverty, sleep in shelters and even subway restrooms but he doesn’t lose hope. He finds an opportunity in the stock market and works his way up the corporate ladder. Based on the real life story of Chris Gardner, this is a touching rags to riches tale of the pursuit of “happyness”. Watch this when you need a little ray of hope.

13. The Notebook

I can never get over Noah (Ryan Gosling) and Allie’s (rachel McAdams) love story. I’m sure we’ve all dreamed of finding our own Noah at some point or the other and who can blame us…he’s perfect!  The Notebook has got to be the most popular romantic film in the whole world. We all know how sweet young love is but the real deal is when you grow old together and continue to love each other just as much, if not more.  If this story doesn’t draw a tear or two from your eyes, you’re heartless!

14.  Marley & Me

Dogs just make life so much more worthwhile and this is THE perfect movie for animal lovers everywhere. Marley is adorable, incredibly naughty and oh-so-lovable. This movie takes us through the life of John and Jenny (Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston), Marley the labrador, and their two kids. As expected, Marley brings a mixed bag of experiences but most of all, he brings them joy. Unfortunately, as with a lot of dog owners in real life, they face a tough decision due to Marley’s  health reasons and it’s almost unbearable to watch! Marley & Me will make you go through a roller coaster of emotions.

15. Meet The Robinsons

Animated films these days really have a lot of hurt.  The first animated film on our list is ‘Meet the Robinsons’, a heart-warming film for the entire family. A boy travels back in time to meet his future family and figures out how he can undo mistakes from the past. In his search, he discovers more than just his family line. There is a very uplifting message in store for everyone who watches this adorable movie!

16.  Hachi: A Dog’s Tale

Another great tearjerker film for dog lovers! This movie is based on a true story about a dog named Hachiko who religiously met his master at the train station every single day. When his master suffers a heart attack and dies, Hachi continues the ritual of waiting for him for the next ten years, until he dies in the snow!  The fact that this is based on a true story just makes it that much more special. I mean, talk about loyalty.

17. Blue Valentine

There are love stories and then there are stories about falling out of love. A med student, Cindy (Michelle Williams) falls in love with a high school drop-out Dean (Ryan Gosling). They get pregnant, decide to keep the baby and fight for their marriage despite their constant fights and arguments. Unfortunately, as it happens in real life, people change, they grow apart and love turns to hate. Both Michelle and Ryan are brilliant actors and I love that this movie keeps it real. It’s a depressing movie but it’s beautiful!

18. Up

Up has got to be one of my most favorite movies ever! Sometimes, I just watch the video of Carl and Ellie’s life and feel so sappy and happy at the same time. Up is about Carl who has lived a long, wonderful life with the love of his life, Ellie and has recently lost her.  Carl wants to keep up his promise of taking Ellie to “Paradise Falls” and so embarks on an epic journey with his house, loads of balloons and Russell, an ADORABLE boy scout. The movie is about undying love, hope and special friendships…all my favorites!

19. My Girl

My Girl is one of those classic tearjerkers that everybody must have their own copy of. The story revolves around Vada (Anna Chlumsky) and her friend Thomas (Macaulay Culkin).  It’s tough to watch Vada go through so much, so early in life. Imagine being a 11 year old who has to deal with complex emotions like the death of her mother, adolescence, a distant father and loneliness to name a few. You will root for her the whole time but it will also shatter your heart like nothing else.

20.  P.S. I Love You

Awww! This is just the sweetest movie ever. It is about a woman Holly (Hillary Swank) who loses her husband Gerry (Gerard Butler) to a tragic disease. But before he dies, he makes sure that his presence stays with Holly so he writes her a series of letters to help her rediscover herself and move on. His sweet and whole voice will have you crying every time she reads a letter. It doesn’t hurt that it stars the very handsome Gerard Butler.

21.   My Sister’s Keeper

My Sister’s Keeper is a movie based on Jodi Picoult’s novel of the same title. I was personally very impressed with Cameron Diaz  whose role as  a mother is a far cry from her usual rom-com movies. Sara (Cameron) and Brian (Jason Patric) discover that their eldest daughter  Kate (Sofia Vassileva) suffers from leukemia and will need donors from time to time in order to survive.  So they decide to have another kid, Anna (Abigail Breslin), whose purpose in life is to donate compatible organs, blood, and tissue to keep her sister alive. It comes to a point where Anna is required to donate one of her kidneys to her sister and she refuses. She also sues them for medical emancipation and the rights to her own body. It’s a beautiful movie that can get overwhelming at times and really get the waterworks going.

22. Seven Pounds

This is the second movie in our list starring Will Smith. This is about a man Tim Thomas (Will Smith) who ends up in a tragic texting and driving accident which takes the life of seven people including six strangers and his fiancee. Unable to live with himself, he decides that the only way to make amends  is to donate his vital organs to seven deserving people before taking his own  life. Does he find seven worthy people? Does he eventually take his own life? You’ll just have to watch and find out.

23. The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones is a deep and dark supernatural movie, based on a novel of the same name.  Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan) plays a 14 year old who is brutally murdered by her neighbor George Harvey (Stanley Tucci). After her death, she finds herself in the “In-Between”, which is neither heaven nor earth.  She is unable to let go and watches over her family, trying to lead them to her murderer and her body. The movie has a very relaxing yet suspenseful temperament that will make you hold on to your seats. In addition to that, the strong love that the family shares will make you burst into tears and the cinematography will take your breath away!

 24. Selena

True stories always make the best movies! It is both heart warming and heart breaking to watch this film because it is about the story of Selena’s colorful life and how it ceased to exist. The twists and turns are undeniably tear-jerking! Plus, don’t you think its crazy how Jennifer Lopez looks exactly like Selena in this film. Of course she’s immensely talented too! It’s almost like she’s a reincarnation of the late Latina artist.

25.  The Lion King

This film will be a favorite for many generations to come! It has all the elements of a great film, laughter, tears, great characters…and music! Till date, nothing makes me cry like the scene where Simba finds Mufasa’s body.  Of course, Timon and Pumbaa are adorable and funny and I still get goosebumps when Simba falls in love with Nala. Hakuna Matata!

26.  Forrest Gump

Tom Hanks can do no wrong! He plays the good hearted but slow Forrest Gump who has many, many adventures. He runs like the wind, gets a college football scholarship,  goes to war, becomes a shrimp boat captain and becomes a millionaire stockholder to name a few.  Above all though, this movie is about Forrest’s love for Jenny (Robin Wright). It’s amazing to watch someone with such a low IQ actually understand the complexities of love. Only Tom could have done this role justice.

27. Brokeback Mountain

I remember watching Brokeback Mountain and feeling like I just got shot in the heart. Both Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhall play their parts as Ennis and Jack to a tee.  The reunion scene is one of my favorites. Even though, both have been married for a while, every emotion they’ve ever felt for each other just comes rushing back the second they see each other. It is a beautiful, vulnerable, tragic love story that is so much more than a “gay cowboy movie” and you have to watch it at least once in your lifetime.

28. Schindler’s List

There is no dearth of Holocaust movies, but Schindler’s list will always remain up there on my list. We all know of the horrors of the Holocaust and this movie brings it to life. Oskar Schindler, played by Liam Neeson is a Czech born factory owner in Poland. When he witnesses the atrocities at Auschwitz, he sets off to rescue as many Jews as he can.  This is Speilberg’s finest movie in my opinion. When I first watched this movie, I couldn’t sleep for days. It is hauntingly brilliant and it will leave a mark on your soul.

29. The Book Thief

The Book Thief is one of my favorite books of all time! I remember when I started reading the book,  I didn’t want to do anything else until I finished it. So, I was super excited when I heard about the movie version. Sure, it’s not as great as the book but you’ve still got to watch it. Sophie Nélisse plays the protagonist Liesel, a young girl during WWII Germany who lives with her foster parents. She is illiterate and is made fun of, but her foster father takes it upon himself to teach her. She starts to love books but has to keep her love a secret and so she starts to steal them from the Mayor’s wife. As the war rages on, Liesel  also learns to write and life moves on until tragedy strikes. The fact that this movie is actually narrated by “death” itself adds to the experience.

30. Toy Story 3

Why not Toy Story 1 or Toy Story 2, you may ask? Well, both the previous ones are great but I think the third one was by far the most moving and the most “grown up” of the three. Andy is ready to head to college and that means getting rid of his childhood toys. Our beloved characters end up at a daycare center which is way less fun than you think it is. Yes, it still has it’s witty, funny moments that are amazingly interwoven with darker, sadder emotions. This one is best watched with a loved one who has a willing shoulder.

31. The Green Mile

This movie was based on a book of the same title written by Stephen King. It’s a death row drama and the main characters are a giant (Michael Clark Duncan) and a mouse. Of course, that’s the simplest way to describe this heavy movie with moving emotions and Christian references. Tons of people will relate to this film especially those who were part of the Depression-era Death Row.  Tom Hanks as usual doesn’t disappoint but the real star for me is the late Michael Clark Duncan with his big and expressive eyes…that are sure to bring tears to your own eyes.

32. Million Dollar Baby

Million Dollar Baby is not just another boxing movie. The word ‘euthanasia’ is  a tearjerker in itself, now weave that into a movie where you’re rooting for the protagonist (Hillary Swank) one second and the next, she’s suddenly a quadriplegic with no hope for recovery. Great cast, great movie and one that is sure to make you cry. This universally acclaimed movie did get into a bit of trouble with the disability rights activists because of the theme of the movie. They particularly didn’t like the ending of the film and pushed for another instead. However, it’s not just the ending that matters right? It’s the whole film itself, and I for one would call this movie inspiring…devastatingly sad but inspiring!

33. Children of Men

Children of Men takes place in 2027 and is a science fiction film written by 5 different great writers – so you can already tell that you are in for a movie treat. This is a very interesting film as it deals with one of the main fears of all of humanity – extinction. During the film, 18 years have already passed since the start of global infertility. This is a great pick for those who have a heart for society and mankind. Plus, it has a really unconventional plot that you will enjoy.

34.  Blood Diamond

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend but this movie will make you really think about where that gorgeous diamond you’re wearing comes from and what’s the “bloody” tale behind it. Considering that Blood Diamond is a tale about racial politics, greed and pure evil, the movie could have ended up being preachy and boring but in the hands of director Edward Zwick and amazing actors like Leonardo DiCpario, Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou, the movie manages to keep you enthralled at all times!

35.  About Time

Starring Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson, About Time is just about the sweetest movie about time travel ever! Domhall plays Tim whose father (the amazing Bill Nighy) tells him  on his 21st birthday that all the men in their family have the ability to time travel. Instead of using it to make a lot of money or collect material things, Tim uses it to find and keep the love of his life. It’s got plenty of sweet moments that will fill your eyes with happy tears and make you appreciate all that you have.

36. Big Fish

You know a movie is going to be good when Tim Burton is involved.  Edward Bloom (Albert Finney) is used to telling larger than life stories about his past. While entertaining to listen to, his tall tales have caused quite a strain to his relationship with his son Will (Billy Crudup).  But when his health starts to fail,  Will and his wife return to Alabama to be close to him. Edward continues his tales. Will demands the truth. At his father’s funoeral, Will finds out that there actually was some truth to his father’s tales. This is a great father-son story that will warm you heart.

37.  Dear John

This is another sappy yet touching love story from the acclaimed novelist Nicholas Sparks. Dear John is about a soldier, John (Channing Tatum) who falls in love with Savannah (Amanda Seyfried) while on vacation. When John needs to go back on the field, Savannah and he continue their relationship by writing letters to each other. Unfortunately, long distance relationships, especially the ones involving the army are hard and Savannah ends up marrying someone else. My favorite scene is when John reads a letter to his father when he’s on his death bed. This is a must-watch for all Nicholas Sparks fans!

38.  Love Story

Based on the novel of the same name, Love Story is the tragic tale of two lovers, Oliver (Ryan O’Neal) and Jenny Cavalleri (Ali MacGraw). Jenny is dying of leukemia but the two get married anyway against Oliver’s father’s wishes.  They share a short but beautiful life and you will wail when she asks him to hold her tightly before she dies. My other favorite part is when Oliver’s dad tries to make amends with him and he repeats Jenny’s words “Love means never having to say you’re sorry”. Aww!

39. Atonement

Nothing hurts like unfulfilled love. Cecilia (Keira Knightley) and Robbie Turner (James McAvoy) fall in love and Cecilia’s sister, Briony (Saoirse Ronan)  accidentally watches them making love.  She gets jealous and also doesn’t quite understand what she’s seen.  She accuses him of raping her cousin.  He gets sent to prison and then to war. The two reunite before he is sent to war and get married later, or do they? The ending will make you hate Briony and wish you had a time machine.

40. 12 Years a Slave

It’s never easy to watch a movie about slavery without it breaking your heart. This Oscar winning movie based on an amazing true story tells the tale of Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who is kidnapped and sold into slavery. He lives a brutal life for 12 years before he is finally reunited with his family. The most heart wrenching scene is when Solomon is forced to whip his friend Patsey (Lupita Nyong’o). It will really make you think about human nature and how some of us actually have no heart.
