12 Love Letters to My Boyfriend That Will Make Him Cry

By on February 20, 2018

We all say, “I love you” all the time. We say it to our mothers and fathers, perhaps even siblings too. We tell best friends that, “We’ll be BFF’s 4 life, love you” all the time, and the love heart emoji has become a much-adored favourite, often seen on the ‘recently used’ list of many a phone.

Sometimes, however, just saying, “I love you” isn’t enough. Those three little words don’t quite convey everything that you’re trying to say. Well, if you’re on the hunt for something really unique, different and profound; a new way to for you to show him that you love him via the medium of a love letter, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve got your back, as always. Here are 13 love letters to my boyfriend that will make him cry:

(And, if he doesn’t cry, he doesn’t have a heart at all!)

1 – When You Need to Say “I’m Sorry”

My love, I’m sorry.

I’m sorry for saying the words I didn’t mean. I’m sorry for not saying the words I should have said; I’m sorry. You’re my best friend, my lover, my world. A world that feels like it has been turned upside down when you’re no longer in it. We’ll have both good times and bad over the chapters of our love story, but one thing will remain true throughout it all — I’m sorry and I love you.

2 – When You Want to Say “Good Morning”

Every morning is a great morning with you in my life, a joy that I’m greeted with every day. After all, who wouldn’t be happy with someone as amazing as you to say hello to each day? A man who can make me smile with just one word, who can soothe me with a simple hug, who can make me forget about everything else, good or bad, with just a look … Every morning is a great morning with you in my life, a joy I hope you’re greeted with today. Good morning, my love.

3 – When He’s Heading For a Boys’ Night Out

Hey, baby,

I know that you’re probably very busy fixing your hair and ironing your shirt for your big boys’ night out, but I just wanted you to know how much I love you, and how much I trust you too. I won’t bug you all night, sending you message after message, demanding to know who you’re talking to or where you are. I promise to not be the kind of girl who does that. Trust is a choice, and I choose to trust you, in all the same ways that you choose to put your trust in me. Time with your friends is very important to you, and you are very important to me. I’ll be counting down the endless hours until I see you next, my love, but until then, I hope you have the most amazing night out with your friends.

Have a drink for me!

Your loving girlfriend xo

4 – When You’re Saying Goodbye

Goodbye in French is adieu. In Spain, they say adiós, and it’s addio in Italian. The Portuguese say adeus, and if you were writing in Latin, you’d sign off with vale. There are hundreds of ways to say goodbye, but my favourite is Aloha — how they say goodbye in Hawaii. They don’t just use the word to say goodbye, but also to say hello. More than that, Aloha means affection, good wishes, and love, and that’s everything I feel for you and wish for you until we see each other again. My king, my love, my everything, aloha.

5 – When He Needs a Boost

Lao Tzu said this:

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”

It’s a beautiful quote and one that I feel you should read right now, baby. Because you are deeply loved, therefore, you have strength. And I feel that you deeply love me, therefore, giving you courage. When you have strength and courage, you can overcome everything and anything in this world.

I know that you’re having a rough time right now, but don’t ever doubt your own strength and courage. I don’t doubt it a drop. Don’t ever doubt that you are deeply loved.

I deeply love you.

6 – When You Want to Say “Good Night”

If we lived in a perfect world, I would have cooked you dinner tonight. I would have run you a bath. I would have laughed with you, perhaps kissed you, maybe held hands with you.

If we lived in a perfect world, I would be sleeping in the bed right next to you tonight. I would also wake up with you, tomorrow morning.

We don’t live in a perfect world, although, my life definitely seems much closer to perfection since you entered in. And, in our non-perfect world, I would very much like you to know that I will be sleeping next to you, but in my dreams.

Good night, my love.

Have the best dreams xo

7 – When Loneliness Sets In

Nights without you are cold and lonely. They’re long. Never-ending, it seems. Even the smallest bed seems huge in comparison when I’m sleeping alone, the warmest of blankets offering nothing in the way of warmth and protection.

When we’re apart, my heart hurts. I miss you. My whole body misses you. I hate that we need to spend time apart, but I know it’s an essential part of life and just one of those battles that we need to fight to make things work. I know, when we first set eyes on each other, that you would be the one I could really be with, for the rest of my life. A soulmate, if you believe in such things, but definitely more than just a lover, or a friend.

Our time apart is always too long, those separate nights seemingly colder than the ones that came before them. But one thing helps me — each day and night that passes that we are not in each other’s arms, is one day closer to seeing you again. The gap gets shorter. The longing becomes more, but the waiting is less. Each hour that sees us separated is one more hour closer to being able to kiss your face, hold your hands, and look into your eyes.

They say that distance makes the heart grow stronger, and the distance between us has definitely made my love for you grow — stronger, brighter, bolder. For every hour I mourn that we’re apart, I celebrate because we are one step closer to being together again.

I love you. I’m lonely for you. Soon, my love, and soon just can’t come quickly enough!

8 – When You’re Tired of Fighting

Did you ever get to a point in a fight where you no longer cared who was right or wrong? My darling, that’s just how I feel. I don’t know what started the fight, or who was to blame. I don’t know which of us should be apologising, or which one should send the first text. I don’t know and I don’t even think it matters because it’s petty. If we must fight, we should do it over the important stuff — the stuff that matters. Not the stuff that doesn’t matter, like whatever probably started off this fight.

For the things I said to you: I’m sorry.

For the way I upset you and hurt your feelings: I’m sorry.

For whatever petty thing started the fight: I’m sorry.

Let’s not fight anymore.

I love you.

9 – When He’s Had a Long Day

When all you need is for someone to wrap their arms around you, I’m there. When all you need is for someone to tell you that you’re doing just fine, I’m there. When you need someone to love you at your worst, I’m there.

Bad days will come and go. Work will seem never-ending. We will run out of money. We’ll go through sickness and petty fights, with each other and with our friends, suffering bad days as well as enjoying the good. With you by my side, I feel like I can handle everything and anything. With me by your side, you can, hopefully, say the same.

I’ll be there when you have bad days, and long ones too. I promise, between us, we will and can see them through. But, more than that, I promise to always love you.

10 – When He’s Feeling Insecure or Jealous

To my love,

There will be times when people try to come between us, forcing their way into my life or yours. They will tell lies. They will gossip. They will try to tear us apart. They will only succeed, however, if we let them, and that’s not something that I am prepared to do.

I love you. My love for you is far brighter, far stronger, and far tougher than even the most determined of attackers. It will overcome lies, gossip, and those who try to tear us apart, and I know this with absolute certainty. My eyes can’t be caught by the prospect of a nice smile or twinkling eyes. A night of drunken laughs won’t capture my attention. Muscles aren’t enough to tempt me away. There is nothing that anyone else could dangle in front of me that would be enough to lure me away from you. That’s something YOU need to know with absolute certainty.

The next time you feel as if my attention or interest lies elsewhere, just remember the way that we make each other feel when we’re together — when your arms are wrapped around me and I’m staring into your eyes. True love. Strong love. Love that can’t be swayed by the passing breeze of someone else. Forget how THEY made you feel — those who try to destroy us. How do I make you feel? Remember that.

I love you.

11 – When You’re Feeling Insecure or Jealous

Do you ever have those days where you wake up and feel like nothing you do is good enough? Nothing you say is funny enough, interesting enough, or carries enough importance? Like nothing you wear looks good enough. Nothing you do is good enough or means anything.

I have those days sometimes. Days where it seems like everything is bleak and grey and just not quite good enough. Those days became less frequent on the day I met you, but today I would really find comfort in your arms around me. To feel your warmth and be soothed by your voice. To be told that I AM good enough, more than good enough, if not for the rest of the world than just for you. I love that you soothe me and ease my anxiety with just a simple look.

On the days that I struggle, when I feel jealous or insecure, I need you — your arms for comfort or your voice and its soothing tones. No one has ever had quite the relaxing touch that you have on me, enough to calm even the stormiest of days.

I want to thank you for being there and for making me feel like I am good enough, on the days that I don’t feel it for myself. I love that you do that for me, that you’re there for me in that way, and that you can make things better — that you can make me feel better about myself.

I love you so much. I’m so grateful to have you in my life, but, right now, I’m having one of those days.

12 – Just Because You Can

“The soul, fortunately, has an interpreter – often an unconscious but still a faithful interpreter – in the eye.”

It was Charlotte Brontë who said those words, in Jane Eyre. One of my favourite things to do is look deeply into your eyes, often revealing many of the things that you can’t or choose not to say. It was in your eyes that I first fell in love, a love that will burn brightly for the rest of my life, I’m sure. And it will be in my eyes that you will see my love burning brightly for you, growing more and more with each day that passes.

You are an amazing man, one of the best I’ve ever met. A funny man, a genuine one, loyal and honest too, I definitely hit the jackpot on that great day I decided it was you.

You are my lover, my best friend, someone I hope to spend forever with. I just wanted you to know that and that I love you.
