 46. The Painted Veil (2006)

Based on a 1925 novel, vivacious and sophisticated, Kitty dazzles the soft-spoken bacteriologist Walter Fane. They are married and move to Shanghai where Walter is stationed to study infectious diseases. Their harsh differences soon arise: she is more interested in partying and socializing, he seems too serious and bookish. Kitty commits adultery with another man but was soon discovered by her husband. He forces her to accompany him to a remote Chinese area where gradually, they rediscover each other in new perspectives. In the death-stricken village, a deeper and genuine mutual love comes alive.

45. Becoming Jane (2007)

English novelist Jane Austen is responsible for several romantic books that inspire unforgettable characters (Yay for Mr. Darcy & Mr. Knightley!) and modern adaptations. She was never married, much to the intrigue of historians. The movie focuses on Jane’s alleged affair with Irish lawyer Thomas Lefroy. Though both start on the wrong feet and quarrel at their first few meetings, both Jane and Tom find themselves attracted to each other. He is a feisty, mischievous young man and she is an ambitious, intelligent woman. Their union is impossible however because Jane is from a poor family and Tom’s uncle is disgraced. They plan on eloping but she discovers that this will incapacitate him from providing for his large family, enabling her sacrifice her very heart.

44. Love in the Time of Cholera (2007)

Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza begin to correspond through letters after falling in love at first sight. As her father discovers their young love, Fermina is sent away to her grandmother and niece. When she returns, she marries Dr. Juvenal Urbino, her father’s choice. This crushes Florentino immensely that at first, he promises to be a virgin forever and eventually, to make love to about 600 women. He finds sex a pain-reliever for his heartache. When Dr. Urbino dies after 50 years, Florentino takes his chance on Fermina again despite their advanced age.

Will Hayes is coaxed by his daughter, Maya, to tell his love story with her mother (don’t worry, this won’t take eight seasons). At this time, Will is in the midst of a divorce but whatever, he proceeds to narrate his love affairs with three women, changing their names to create a “mystery love story.” In the end, Maya correctly guesses which of them is her mother and which of them is the one Will truly loves.

30. Before Midnight (2013)

As a sequel to two predecessors, here we find Jesse and Celine vacationing in Greece as a couple and parents of twins. Jesse is a successful novelist but Celine is struggling. They spend time reminiscing how they met and how their lives changed ever since and their fears of both the present and the future. They end up in an argument and Celine decides to call it  quits but Jesse professes his unconditional love for her. This is a realistic yet creative take on the ups and downs of love.

As the conclusion to Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn part 2 is an astonishing, epic finale! Bella, now a vampire, raises her daughter Renesmee with Edward and the rest of the Cullens. Renesmee grows in a rapid rate and they begin to worry what will become of her. The Volturi decides that Renesmee is a threat and comes for Bella, Edward and the Cullens to kill them. After bullying a witch at their high school, Kyle is turned into a hideous state and will remain so unless he falls in love. But could a malicious, pompous rich kid learn to love anyone apart from himself? Can sweet and beautiful Lindy ever love him despite his ugly features? This is a modern retelling of the fairy tale ‘Beauty and the Beast.’

Paul is a workaholic physician who drives to Rodanthe to speak to a patient’s family. Adrienne is a mother of two and estranged from her husband. The two spend days together at a bed-and-breakfast by the sea and they open up to each other—sharing heartaches and emotional baggage. As the days go by, a genuine love is born. But Paul had to leave to set things right for him and his son, corresponding with Adrienne only through letters, not knowing he may never come home to her again.

Eventually, R finds himself become human again through that one thing that makes us all feel alive—love!
